Why is America one of the only wealthy democracies still clinging to superstition and religion?

The public school system is mainly to blame. We have filled our children's minds with rubbish about talking snakes and teaching them evolution is a lie for the past several generations. And now those generations of superstitious idiots are running this country. So naturally the country will continue to push their religious crap into the education system.
